“The Ladies can do just as well!! Sheila with a fifteen pounder”
Salmon Fishing:
Cree Villa is situated right on the banks of the river Cree, below the Minnigaff bridge. It overlooks the weir with a tiered garden that leads right down to the rivers edge. The salmon fishing is once again to quite a high standard with larger fish entering the system than over the past few years.
Salmon are present from opening day on March 1st right through until season end on October 14th, and indeed fresh fish are seen entering the system right up until early January.
The sea-trout start appearing around end of April and again can run to the end of the season.
A 12 to 14 feet double handed rod will more than suffice for most of the local rivers, but a single rod will also satisfy.
Day tickets for the river cost between £25.00 and £30.00 per day ( see WWW.NSAA.ORG.UK) and are available locally from us at Cree Villa, Galloway Angling Centre Tel: 01671401333, www.gallowayangling.co.uk; the, Creebridge House Hotel, tel: 01671 402121, or from the Galloway Arms Hotel, tel: 01671 402653.
There are hundreds of hill lochs stocked and indigenous, and again day tickets are available from us at Cree Villa, the Forestry Commission, and/or the Newton Stewart Angling Association www.nsaa.org.uk.
Steve, from Cree Villa, is an avid salmon fly-fisherman, and can offer advice on the local fishings, fish lye's , flies and casting tuition for both double and single fly rods. Price on application.
Worm and spinning is allowed on the river when the water is above the fly only gauge. Worms can be obtained locally or directly from www.wormsdirect.co.uk, who offer a guaranteed next day delivery service if ordered before 4.00pm the day prior.

Casting tuition from Steve is available for both single and double handed fly rods.
