Bird Watching

Ospreys are here again in Galloway

Ospreys are thriving in the Galloway forest once again.

You can visit Wigtown County Buildings (about 5 minutes drive from Cree Villa), which has a 24 hour video monitoring of the Ospreys’ nest.

A bell is rung out to sound the laying of each egg, and again when each bird leaves the nest. It is free to visit the buildings, which has spectacular views over the

Cree estuary.

Red Kites can be seen at the Laurieston Red Kite Feeding Station

(near Kirkudbright) every day at 2.00pm.

For the modest fee of £2.00 you can view this spectacular sight.

These rare Kites come from as far away as Northern Ireland, Snowdonia

and Norway every day for a free feed.

It is a awe inspiring experience to see between 50 and 100 Red Kites swooping for food.

Peregrine falcons, Harris hawks, Hen Harriers, Merlins, Buzzards, Kestrels and other raptors can be found in the area, and occasionally even the odd Golden Eagle.
